My first banana seat bicycle.

When I was a kid (in the 1960's) I wanted one of those new bicycles banana seat bicycles more than anything. They had cool handlebars and a banana seat that allowed you and a buddy to comfortably piggy back (no more of the unsafe and uncomfortable riding on the handlebars) down the block or across town. Those banana bicycles also came in awesome orange, green and red and if your Dad knew his P's and Q's he put a playing card in the spokes so the bike sounded like a motorcycle chopper. But alas we were poor people and I knew getting a new bicycle was out of the question.

Well I was partly right. You see there was twice in my life when my mother was surprizingly intuitive (once when she wouldn't let me buy stretch pants for the second year in a row) and she put her own plan to work. She got a old bicycle frame, handlbars from the police auction and a banana seat from the junk yard. My father sanded and painted the frame and for my 11th birthday I got the greatest gift a boy could ever have. His own banana seat bicycle.

Cheap Beach Cruisers Model BC105

The BC105 was discontinue and now it is back. I can only imagine that with the steep price increases that were taking place in 2007 and 2008 that with the economic downturn manufactures realized that you can’t keep jacking up the price when people are now shopping for no frills cheaper bicycles. Hence the BC105 is back.


The BC105 Deluxe is a lovely bike and quite the nice basic cruiser but it is definately a no frills Beach Cruiser. Price wise it is considerably cheaper than some of the other models and along the line (price wise) of the Urban models. However, in my opinion the Urban models by Firmstrong and Firth are better bicycles and more enduring.

Big and Tall Beach Cruisers by JUSTBICYCLES.COM

Often I'm ask about a Beach Cruiser for a Big and Tall Man. Sometimes these bicyclist lean
towards a stretch bike thinking that will help them accomadate their girth. Unfortunately, the exact opposit is true. A big and tall man should not be riding the extended stretch cruisers because it shifts all his weight so that it puts a strain on his back. In addition, many of these bikes are designed for eye appeal but little comfort.

My recommendation for the big ad tall man is the "CHIEF". It is made by Firmstrong Bicycles and/or Firth Sports and is designed specifically for the big and tall man. From the extra inch length in the frame to the repositioning of the crank case this bike has specifically been made for big men. Indeed, I have sold these bikes to men girthed at 350 and 375 lbs and never had a complaint one (although the manufacture does not warrant this weight for the particular bicycle I have decided that is an error in calculation to avoid lawyers more than anything - - my opinion:-)

Anyway, I can tell you from personal experience the Chief is a great ride whether you are big and tall or just tall (recommended for men over 6 foot tall).

Back from the gym where I rode a stationery bike and the workout has my left hip socket sore and hurting. I don't understand why this happens on a stationary bike because I never get this riding the streets.

I skipped the "full" workout today because I'm feeling kind of down. Swine Flu thing is a little scary and I don't want to push the headache/body aches coming on but fortunately I'm not in a high risk category i.e. elderly and young ones.

Ever wonder who will be greater in the long history of Augliar, Brittany Spears, Hannah Montana or Lindsey Lohan? You have to admire Billy Cyrus handling of the kid.

Closing for tonight because with bike season starting up the orders are getting crazy and I need the rest. Nice to be on the wholesale side of things even though the trips to the plant in China have been limited.

New BC106 Greenline Bicycles

Looks like the new models of the Greenline Bicycles have started to arrive. It was interesting that where Greenline put a dash of green on the 106 models for last year they have removed it this year. It is back to basics with the latest models.

As to Micargi Bicycles inventory levels are at a high that I haven't seen in a couple of years. I"m not sure if that is good planning on their part (because they have bicycles this time of year when other manufactures do not) of poor planning in that some of these seem to be left over from the Christmas season and others are bikes arriving considerably earlier than the actual season commencement.

Either way this is summing up to be a fantastic bicycle season. With the economy in the dumps bicycling and picnics would be a great way to safe some cash and still have a wonderful family outing.

Because bicycling is popular as a form of exercise and recreation as well as a means of transportation, specialized mechanics are in demand. They usually work for bicycle shops or for the bicycle departments of large sporting goods or department stores.

After determining what repairs or services are needed, mechanics give estimates and order any parts that are not kept in stock. They may have to adjust the frames or replace or repair major parts such as wheels or brakes. They also upgrade bicycles by adding special tires or pedals or customize bikes to fit their riders.

Mechanics also provide basic maintenance, such as cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting chains and hub bearings. In some shops, mechanics teach bike owners to do basic maintenance themselves.
Some mechanics specialize in racing bicycles. They are usually employed by large bicycle shops or by racing teams.

Education and Training Requirements

No formal training is required, but good mechanical and communication skills are necessary. Bicycle Season Starts . . .

However, I have noticed that this year shipping times across America seem to be much faster than what they were last year. The down side is that many manufactures have not received inventory and some of the smaller manufactures only have a handful of bicycles currently in stock. Not sure if that means a shortage of bicycles like in 2007 or whether it just means the winter orders have not arrived.
Either way my advise is to get your order in now.

Weather Perfect for a 3 speed bicycle

With the weather starting to improve here in the South USA I have been trying to decide which bicycle I should show off. As a bicycle shop employee I have my pic. I own all the stretch limo bicycles, beach cruiser bicycles and all the Firmstrong Bicycles, Greenline Bicycles, Nirve Bicycles and Mantis Beach Cruisers. You can say I'm bicycle poor. (I'm even adding the Schwinn Bicycles to my personal portfolio this year since bicycling has become my addiction:-)

I hear lots of people say that MTB Mountain Bikes are out of vogue. I'm not sure I agree with that statement entirely but with the advent of the 3 and 7 speed Beach Cruiser I'm beginning to question more and more why someone would ride a bicycle where the steel rod sticks up their rectrum. Not comforatable is to say the least.

The flip side is that when I ride my 3 speed Beach Cruiser (306A) I have the light weight feature that this aluminum bicycle brings and the speed and comfort of a multi speed beach cruiser.

So you decide. For me I"m riding my three speed bicycle tommorrow and the kids can trail afterwards on their 20 inch kids beach cruisers bicycles.

Bicycle Riding in at White Rock Lake - Dallas

I've never measured it but I'm told that it is 14 miles around White Rock Lake in Dallas. What I have determined is helmets and knee pads are a must for the ride around the lake. Walking around the lake I have two often bicycle riders end up on the concrete pavement trying to negotiate the turns. This seems particularly so when they go over the brides.

Once more it supports my ideas that Mountain Bicycle (MTB) should only be ridden in the Mountains. I have never seen a Beach Cruiser end up on the pavement because these riders are typically going slower and enjoying the ride rather than racing around.
